Heart appears in Genesis 6:5, “The Lord saw the wickedness of man……the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually”. The knowledge of good and evil didn’t make man like God, it released in man an uncontrollable desire. A self centered need to satisfy oneself and deny the goodness of God. Genesis 6:6, “And The Lord regretted He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him to His heart”. Our heart is so important to the Lord that the condition of ours grieves His. We can certainly understand when someone with no regard for a God, would also have no concern for His heart, but what excuse does the believer have? We “ know Him”, we “love Him” we “worship Him”.In Exodus we learn of the hardness of a heart, Pharaoh chose against God and for himself, the Lord hardened his heart, in turn the hearts of Israel were turned towards Him. Then when confronted with severe doubt at the bottom of the mountain the evil heart took over. Again, many died, protecting the hearts of many more. The Lord is jealous of our hearts, wants all of our heart, tells us to surrender, surrender to Him, give Him our heart, let Him lead us to the promised land.
